Do's & Don'ts of Preparing Students for High-Stakes Testing

CSAP can have a significant impact on the future of many schools. High-stakes testing is one of the major reforms of the No Child Left Behind Act in terms of accountability. We have all heard the controversy about high-stakes testing, but one thing is for sure…it is not going anywhere. Students can be taught the skills and strategies directly associated with the academic standards assessed on the CSAP. This class gives a comprehensive overview to the specific skills and strategies students must know to better prepare themselves for taking the CSAP. Participants will learn the essential standards at the individual grade levels, the subcontent area associated with more difficult items, how to best utilize released items, how to use the supplied rubrics in reading, writing, and math to drive instructional needs in the classroom, and how to use the anchor papers to model expectations. This workshop focuses on instructional strategies to best address the content standards on the CSAP. (Audience: administrators, 3-8 classroom teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessional educators.)
